According to some of the medical textbooks a couple is considered infertile once they have not conceived after having unprotected sex for over a 12 month period, and although this can be age dependent, after a year or so of trying it started hitting home.

When we hit the dreaded “12 month milestone”, I knew that something had to change. The past months of scheduled ‘lovemaking’, charting my ovulation timing, completing 3 months of Clomid, having all foods which were deemed to help with conceiving were all proving to be futile. I could not continue to live my life like this, however I did not know what to do.

Following a chat with a colleague who had gone the fertility treatment route and had a daughter to show for it. I decided to start my research to understand what was out there and where the nearest centers were.

Through the search I came across Dr Leanne Scott from NurtureLife center, a homeopath who works with infertility. I was drawn by her profile and that she responded promptly to my email. I also emailed Vitalab which is a fertility clinic nearest to our home to arrange an appointment with a fertility specialist. I figured exploring two different routes could not hurt.

The first appointment I managed to get was at Vitalab which probably was a good thing because the amount of evaluation tests they do before you can sit with the fertility specialist are quite thorough and I could use the results for the appointment with Dr Leanne. The tests would determine reproductive hormone levels, eggs quality & quantity, as well as the condition of the thyroid hormone. I also had to do a Hysterosalpingography (HSG) test to confirm if my right Fallopian tube was open. Hubby was also required to do some tests i.e. semen analysis and reproductive hormone levels.

I looked at all this as a standard procedure and I did not worry about the results. Like I said, I had fallen preggies before so to me falling pregnant again was inevitable and probably the delay was due to the hectic work stress.
